Sligo Live is proud to present world famous stand-up comic, John Bishop, for one night in the Knocknarea Arena at IT Sligo on Friday, 25th October 2019.

John Bishop’s ability to keep the laughs coming together with his unique brand of observational humour, undeniable charm and unrivalled gift of creating a relaxed atmosphere guarantees a hilariously entertaining evening in his company.

Bishop hails from Liverpool and his comedy roots are still firmly in Merseyside.  John’s early life in Liverpool gives him a lot of material for his show, as he relives experiences such as playing semi-professional football and working as a nightclub doorman. He played non-league for Southport and Hyde United, with the highlight of his footballing career being his appearance for the Liverpool Legends in the Hillsborough Memorial Game at Anfield in 2009.

Stand-up comedy wasn’t John’s first choice of career. He had a high-flying job with a pharmaceutical company which provided him with a good living as he jetted round the globe selling medication to prevent organ transplant rejection. His part-time comedy career quickly led to a whole series of nominations for comedy awards: he was a finalist in So You Think You’re Funny, the BBC New Comedy Awards, The City Life North–West Comedian of the Year and The Daily Telegraph Open Mic Awards. Following this his reputation soared: he became a broadcaster and wrote a play – Happy Families – for Radio 4. When his marriage broke up he re-assessed his life and having had comedy success, most notably his television debut early in 2004 on RTE’s The Panel and Kilkenny Cat Laughs Festival, John handed in his notice and became a full-time touring comedian. Happily, his new career led to him and his wife Melanie getting back together. Since then he hasn’t looked back.
