The Delines + Café Spice

Hawk’s Well Theatre Sligo – Thursday 24th October at 8pm (Doors 7pm) – Tickets On Sale Now

The Delines are an Americana Alt Country Soul band led by celebrated American writer, Willy Vlautin. They appear at Sligo Live in the Hawk’s Well Theatre Sligo on October 24th at 8 p.m. Tickets €22.50 + s.c. Plus Very Special Guests Café Spice.

The Delines released their sophomore album ‘The Imperial’ in January 2019 and it went straight into the Irish/U.K. Americana charts at number 1 and stayed there for several weeks. The Portland, Oregon band’s entire UK and Irish tour sold out and the press and radio loved the album. It picked up where their stellar 2014 debut, ‘Colfax’ left off. Like that album, The Imperial features Damnations, TX co-founder Boone evoking a beat-up Dusty Springfield or a weary Rickie Lee Jones on 10 tracks penned by Vlautin, who was also lead singer/songwriter for his previous band, Richmond Fontaine which broke up in 2016. Vlautin is a prize-winning novelist (two of his books, The Motel Life and Lean on Pete have become major films).

Equally adept at sounding broken-hearted and optimistic, weary and resilient, Boone conveys Vlautin’s characters in a voice that he fell in love with when he first heard it during a tour Richmond Fontaine did with Damnations, TX, the band Boone had formed with her sister, Deborah Kelly.

Portland’s Freddy Trujillo signed on to play bass. Sean Oldham ex-Richmond Fontaine on drums and multi-instrumentalist Cory Gray stepped in to round out the band’s cinematic, late-night country-soul sound with keyboard and trumpet.

Joining The Delines are Café Spice, a Manchester-based indie-folk trio who create heavenly and Autumnal harmonies reminiscent of the Mamas & Papas whilst also sitting with the effortlessly sublime indie-folk of contemporaries such as The Staves or HAIM. Café Spice are three musicians, including Sligo native Niamh Feeney. Each of the women brings their own individual style spanning jazz, blues, pop, country, traditional folk and funk. The result is a fantastic fusion and mixing pot of genres. A new sound woven from singing, harmony and clever songwriting.
