Volunteers
Back to main page!Sligo Live Festival is Ireland’s first volunteer run festival on a large scale. Over the past two festivals volunteers came from all walks of life with an eclectic mix of third level students, an accountant, a foreign student, office workers, musicians from the UK and US, nurses, chefs, etc. All of this added to the buzz that was evident throughout the weekend.
Over 100 volunteers worked at last year’s Sligo Live Festival. There was a fantastic atmosphere and the fluorescent pink volunteer t-shirts were worn with pride and panache!!
Dylan, the foreign student, travelled on his own from France to be a volunteer. He first made contact by e-mail and then flew to Sligo where he camped locally, carried out his volunteering duties and thoroughly enjoyed the whole festival.
Alva and Josie, two chefs, took a new direction in life by acting as stewards for the week.
A romance blossomed between a couple (who shall remain nameless). It was convenient for them that they were able to use the walkie talkies to encourage this relationship. Who knows what might happen this year!!!
18 year olds Kevin and Marcus became the backbone of security for the green room. They loved the responsibility they were given and they became the envy of all their friends because they got to rub shoulders with the artists.
While safety was the first call of duty, there was a wonderful sense of bonding which in turn led to a very smooth and trouble free event.
